.I am not talking about remembering, it is beyond me how data is stored inside your or my head
.Some will challenge how am I qualified to talk about this, I am not a scholar in human studies, my degree is in the plant science field, botany and horticulture. That has no bearing on the mechanics of how we learn, the only qualification I have is I have done it, and I have watched it done many time, I am the oldest of nine kids, I had five of my own that I have watched learn, I have some grandkids I am watching now, plus over the years I have watched 100's of kids at church and in the community I live in.
.If I remember a newborn learns from others and from its own observation. I am sure that what it learns first will be up for debate, I suspect it will be something like this, I make a noise and someone comes running to fuss over me, being fussed over makes me feel good, I will make more noise. Another example might be, when the nice smell puts thing in my mouth and I suck, I feel better. A close third would be when the loud, bad smell holds me and I make noise I get handed to the nice smell and that is always good.
.As a baby grows one thing becomes plain, that it learns what it likes, it is also clear that the parents want to teach it things that it does not like, things like to be clean, to eat new food, to except other people especially the loud bad smell (father). Over time the baby learns to except the things it does not like and even learns to love some of them, Ice Cream is always better than Asparagus, a hot tub at the end of the day is almost heaven for some.
.As a toddler the learning slows down some, but not much. It learns about what is outside, it learns colors, those noises mom and dad make, mean things; the really bad smell (grandpa) can be fun to. Most importantly it can start to learn discipline, when told not to climb on stuff because falling will hurt, sooner or later it will try it and yep it hurt, when told not to touch the stove because it is hot, yep it is hot, now it know what hot is and that mom and dad where right. Note the two faces of learning, on its own it learned what hot is, and it learned things to avoid in the future from listening to mom and dad, (note not all are smart enough to learn this).
.As the child gets older the learning slow down, we teach ourselves to only learn in school, entertainment becomes the preferred way we use our time. When we get into a collage we are taught that our instructors are the ultimate in current knowledge. Unless we have a talent for seeing beyond the obvious, (most of us if we set under an apple tree would move if an apple hit us on the head, how many would stay and ask why did this apple fall) we are directed to training for a job as our way to spend our educational time.
.I have been taught my entire life that we should never quit learning. I have been taught that we need to always look for a qualified teacher; I believe that the universe is set up to teach. I know the moment I say the forbidden word God, that all this line of thought will be ridiculed, so be it. Those who want to close out one of the best sources for learning are free to do so, to the rest please consider this, you have been taught to not learn. Challenge your self, challenge how you use your time, have you limited who you can become?
